About
Hi, I'm Lakshan Perera (or as most of you may know, laktek).
I grew up in sunny & smiley city of Colombo in Sri Lanka. As a kid, I was fascinated by building imaginary structures and worlds. I started with discarded cigarette cartons, then got my hands to lego blocks and finally convinced my parents to buy a computer, when I was 13. I was mesmerized by the concept called Internet, which I saw as a imaginary world that could connect everyone. I wanted to be part of it. So I learnt to create web sites and it became my lifelong passion.
I was selected to University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka for my secondary education. I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors in Information Technology. While at the University, I participated in the Google Summer of Code once with SilverStripe CMS and another with Open Nebula.
Also, during my freshman year itself, I got an opportunity to join a Sri Lankan startup called Vesess, as an intern. Later at Vesess, I created and led the development of CurdBee, which became a popular online invoicing application among small businesses and freelancers.
In 2013, I moved to Singapore to work on Nitrous.IO (formerly, Action.IO). We're on a mission to make coding fun & accessible to everyone.
I have several Open Source projects under my belt. Most popular is Punch, a modern web publishing framework. Also, I created jQuery plugins - Really Simple Colorpicker and SmartAutocomplete. Latter is used in Adobe Brackets. Apart from my personal projects, I have also contributed to Aloha Editor.
Beyond coding, I love to travel, meet people and broaden my perspective of life. If you like to get in touch with me, drop an email to lakshan at laktek.com.
